Pest emergency on the South Shore: recognize it, report it, limit the damage
Some situations cannot wait for an ordinary quote: a wasp nest above the front door, mice chewing near the electrical panel, bed bugs found the week you move. This page explains how to recognize them, how to report them and what to do until a technician arrives, without promising a response time this site cannot guarantee.
What justifies a fast response
An active wasp or hornet nest near a doorway
Above a door, under a deck, next to a play structure. Colonies peak in August and September and become more defensive: the risk climbs for anyone allergic and for young children.
Rodents in a wall, a ceiling or near the electrical panel
Mice and rats chew wire insulation. Scratching at night, droppings near the panel or a smell of urine in a closed room: this is no longer just a nuisance.
Bed bugs right before a move
In Quebec, a large share of leases end on June 30. Moving infested mattresses, couches and boxes carries the problem into the new home. Inspect and treat before, not after.
Cockroaches or rodents in a food business, daycare or senior residence

A bat in a room people use
Bats are a protected species: they are excluded, not exterminated. But if anyone may have had contact with the animal, especially while asleep, call Info-Santé 811 first. The rabies question comes before the pest question.
What can wait for a regular quote
A few ants in spring
Wingless ants in the kitchen in May are often pavement ants. Winged black ants indoors deserve an inspection, but rarely the same day.
Asian lady beetles in the fall
Unpleasant, staining and smelly, but harmless. The real work is sealing openings, ideally before the end of September.
An empty wasp nest in winter
An abandoned nest is not reused the following spring. It can be removed without any rush, even if it is large.
Spiders in the basement
Almost always harmless in this region. They mostly point to moisture and to the other insects they feed on.
What to do while you wait
Do not set off a bug bomb. Against bed bugs and cockroaches, aerosol foggers push insects into walls and neighbouring rooms, which makes the professional treatment longer.
Do not hit or plug a wasp nest. A wasp trapped in a wall often finds another way out, sometimes indoors. Keep children and pets away from the area and use another door if you can.
For rodents, no poison left in the open. Poorly placed rodenticide is a danger to pets and children, and a poisoned mouse often dies inside a wall. Store food in sealed containers and note where you see signs.
Take photos. A close-up of the insect, the nest or the droppings often lets someone assess the situation before the visit and bring the right equipment.

No. This site advertises no round-the-clock emergency line. Requests are made online, and whether a fast response is possible depends on the zone and on a technician's availability. It is never guaranteed in advance.
Does an emergency call cost more?
Some companies charge a surcharge for evenings, weekends or same-day service. If so, it must appear in the quote before the work. Usual ranges are on the pricing page.
Can I destroy a wasp nest myself?
A small nest that is visible, reachable and away from a door sometimes can be, in the evening and well protected. A nest inside a wall, a soffit or under a deck is another story: the wasps find another exit, and a ladder combined with stings is a common cause of accidents.
I found a bat in the house. What should I do?
If nobody could have touched it, open a window, close the door of the room and let it leave. If contact was possible, especially with a sleeping person or a child, call Info-Santé 811 before anything else. Excluding bats from an attic is planned afterwards, outside the period when the young cannot fly yet.
